Surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) have emerged as decisive devices for a multitude of high-volume systems. Datacom interconnects, 5G-Fronthaul, 3D-sensing/Imaging, Silicon Photonics, Illumination, Automotive (LiDARs), Industrial Welding and Cutting, and Medical present some of the rapidly growing fields of applications. Each application needs its“own” dedicated and specially adapted device. Advanced semiautomatic and automatic processing and characterization technologies help to adapt the devices to new market demands for human needs.

         The European VCSEL community meets in a quite informal frame since about 15 years at always changing places to present their latest results and exchange ideas how to meet future challenges.

         An increasing number of leading scientists and engineers from academia and industry have enjoyed these meetings.

         “Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics“ of the Chinese Academy of Sciences at CIOMP in Changchun will organize the first of a similar event in Asia from 16^th-17^th October 2023.
